Paul O. Williams (1935-2009) knew success as a novelist, winning the John Campbell Award for Best New Writer in the science fiction field, but it is his haiku which has gathered the most attention and awards in the last couple decades. He was president of the Haiku Society of America and Vice President of the Tanka Society of America, a board member of the American Haiku Archives, a founding member of the Haiku Poets of Northern California, and 24th President of the Thoreau Society. His book of criticism, The Nick of Time, received a Merit Book Award from the Haiku Society of America in 2003.
